About the Workshop

Front End Web in Four Nights is a workshop series designed to help students develop a foundational skillset in HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, the core technologies that run in every browser, and are fundamental to doing any kind of technical work on the web.

Each day of the workshop follows this format:

  • Activator: discussion to get people thinking about the key ideas and real-life experiences that both remind us of our prior knowledge and foster new questions.
  • Demonstrations + Challenges: A series of short pairs of demonstrations and challenges to teach and practice particular concrete coding skills. Demonstrations are short “live-coding” demonstrations and conversational explanations by instructors. Challenges are small, self-contained exercises to help a student practice and gain mastery of a skills and concepts in the demonstration. As students complete challenges they will have access to materials from the demonstration. Each challenge is also followed by a short regroup for clarification or extension.
  • Independent Work: Students work on a more open-ended, exploratory work, using API documentation and creativity.
  • Regroup: A chance to share questions and progress
